Welcome, To Jurassic World!

Personal Journal

It is a well known fact that every kid grows up loving dinosaurs! And so when the doors to Steven Spielberg’s 1993 Jurassic Park opened up shiver went down my spine as I saw these amazing creatures brought to life. Since then we have seen Jurassic Park: Lost World (1997) and Jurassic Park 3(2001) hit the cinemas, but since then it almost seemed that Jurassic Park had sadly gone extinct. Until Jurassic World was announced!

Due to hit cinemas on the 12th June, Jurassic World is set twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, the famous Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. After 10 years of operation and a drop in visitor rates, in order to fulfill a corporate mandate, a new attraction is created to re-spark visitor’s interest, which backfires horribly.
Now this horrible new hybrid dinosaur, reportedly nicknamed the D-Rex, can briefly be seen in its full beauty in the above trailer. The thought of  the brutish strength of a Tyrannosaurus-Rex crossed with the unsettling wit of a Raptor is enough to make me shake in my boots. This screenshot of the D-rex peering through the green forest canopy reminds us of the classic “clever girl” scene from the first Jurassic Park, a great shout back to its origins from new to the franchise director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed).

jurassic-world-super-bowl-trailer-1The advertisement for this film has been simply amazing with a fully operational and interactive website having been created as if Jurassic World was a real life attraction for people to visit. The site is well worth a visit for all dinosaur and film fanatics alike. http://uk.jurassicworldintl.com

Hot off the amazing Marvel hit Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Chris Pratt plays expert in the field Owen Grady alongside a cast that features Bryce Dallas Howard (Spiderman 3), Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil) and Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3) we have a mostly new cast from the original trilogy (Yes, we see you there BD Wong!). Chris Pratt appears to really fit the role well bringing his usual witty sense of humour to the role, and Its got to be said Chris Pratt does look real cool riding this bike alongside a pack of trained hunting raptors!Jurassic-World_990x494

Marvel Avenger’s Remix

161MC

This is my remix/mashup of the original Avengers (2012) trailer including clips from other films such as: Star Trek: Into Darkness, Gremlins, Gremlins 2, The Adventures of Mr Blobby, Alan Carr: Chatty Man, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Anchorman 2, Mr Bean, Cable Guy, Dumb and Dumber, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Zoolander.

The aim of this piece was simply to entertain people interested particularly in the superhero franchise created by Marvel. I aimed to do this by mixing in scenes from various comedic films as listed above to the serious tone of the Avengers trailer. Overall, I am pretty happy with the outcome and thaudience applause_Flickr_smackfue remix has been met with some positive comments.

“Looking good Grant Severus Snaith 🙂 x”
“Awesome mash up”
“That was definitely an experience.”
“I want my money back..”

Academic Freedom is the belief that faculty members should be able to communicate freely their ideas or individual facts that are in contrast to political parties or to authorities without being threatened with oppression imprisonment. Rules vary on this across the world for example in the United States it is recognised that teachers in the education system should avoid such controversial statements that are not relevant to the subject at hand.

Here in the UK we as creative students operate under the Fair dealing act which is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. This does not allow for whole use of another individuals creative work but samples as I have done in the video above so long as I have not claimed ownership and have credited the creator of the source material.

As of the 1st October 2014 the UK put into effect small but significant change to U.K. legislation that would enable people to freely parody copyright protected video, film and TV works without fear of reprisal or legal challenge such as what I have done above. Previous to this, people living in the UK whom created parody mash-ups using unauthorized clips from film and TV were risking being sued for breach of copyright and facing criminal prosecution. These amendments meant that this work could be freely used and if the creator of the copyrighted piece found this parody to be conveying a discriminatory message, or it detracts from any commercial exploitation of the copyrighted work they could issue a takedown notice or take legal action on the parody.
